Shankar Jaikishan and Their Pact

On creation of their famous banner, Shankar Jaikishan formed a pact as to always collaborate in their work and never reveal their individual contribution to their music. They lived by that pact made in 1949 and continued with it even after Jaikishan’s death in 1971 until Shankar’s in 1987. The other condition was that the survivor. between the two, will continue working under the same banner. After the untimely death of his music partner, Shankar worked for sixteen more years for the Shankar Jaikishan banner.

Therefore, as their fans, we need to respect their agreement and refrain from analyzing their songs which is of no consequence to us at all. What does it matter if Shankar or Jaikishan composed the tune and one of them, rehearsed it and the other recorded? The end product is a Shankar Jaikishan song. Therefore, the administration of this group strongly discourages members from giving credit to either Shankar or Jaikishan for any of their songs. Those who are not in favor of our appeal, can go ahead and create your own group, independent of this one, to share “your knowledge and expertise on SJ.”
