Shankar Jaikishan – The Heart and Soul of A Song

The year 1949 was a turning point for two individuals whose paths crossed to lead them on the road to the end of their lives. It is a strange and rare story of the two whose love for music brought them together and kept them bound till their end. With their lives intertwined, they remained brothers, friends and business partners with a great working relationship. They are the great master musicians, Shankar and Jaikishan. The mutual care, love and respect they shared was like non other. Their life can be compared to a song:If Shankar was the “Raag,” Jaikshan was the “Taal” that created a melody. If Shankar was the tabla, Jaikishan was the harmonium that created the rhythm. If Shankar was the prelude, Jaikishan was the postlude that a song started and ended with. Thus, they were “do jism magar ek jaan.” You cannot have one without the other. They created the Shankar Jaikishan banner and made a pact at the beginning of their career to work together and never ever to reveal their individual contribution to any and every composition of theirs. They kept their word to each other till their very end and, as their fans, we need to respect and honor their wish.
